Evening Meadow (Tišnov)
Tišnov - a small town not far from Brno, southern Moravia. I lived there 10 years during m school years. I used to go to this meadow below the hill Klucanina all the time. We played there, climbed trees, picked flowers and plums and skied in the winter. It was about 5 minutes from my home and I always passed it going to school and back. I painted it in 2022 during my visit to Czech Republic, after a visit to Tišnov, full of memories and emotions.
Meadow of Abundance (Tišnov)
I had several photos of this meadow. This view is from the other side - the ski side. This abstract version was created soon after I returned back to California from Czech Republic in 2022. I chose limited palette and experimental, loose interpretation of this childhood place. It was also time after I lost one close family member and so this idillic place lost its playfulness and its portrait is a bit more serious, adult.
November Is Still Warm (Brno)
Brno is my home in Czech Republic. I lived here as a child and after school years in Tišnov also the rest of my life until I moved to California. It is surrounded by woods and hills and lies on two rivers Svitava and Svratka. After my move back to Czech Republic from California we had a mild fall. The little wood/park near my home full of leafy trees is my new place where I take my dog. I follow the changes during the seasons. This painting is in my mosaic style and I specifically looked for fall colors for my color palette.
Walking the Path of the Leaves (Brno)
This wood near my home is called Akatky - acacias. And it is really full of these trees. This is my first painting of it. It is done with pastel procreate brush and rather summer color palette but I painted it in the fall. After Californian desert I got really excited by this kind of leafy environment. It was almost new to me.
Green Zone (Brno)
Akatky can get very green and as the year proceeds the green color changes. This spot in the wood is in the middle between the two other paintings. The tree with that characteristic curvy branch is still there and every time I walk there I'm thinking: ye this it the tree of my painting. When you paint a place you have to become very intimate with it to be able to show it to the world. So all these three places are very familiar to me. This was also just a spontaneous sketch but developed into a nice loose painting.
Reflection Wins (Giverny, France)
Water lily pond in Giverny, Monet's garden, that's this place. Yes there are no water lilies here or there are just color blobs where they should be. This painting is based on a photograph by my friend Philippe who allowed me to use it. I used a color palette based on Peruvian colored corn. Nice combination, right? The style of this painting is somewhat unique. The rich vegetation and trees of this place simply led me to the free style, simply suggesting what these plants and trees could be. The colors also played their role - excitingly celebrating the beautifully overgrown garden. One day I'm going to visit, too.
