Colors of Greek Streets

Some places become part of us so quietly that we don’t realize it until years later.

This simple view was once part of my everyday life during my first job in Greece. For four months, I lived just a short walk from the Aegean Sea, and the little fishing boat, the warm afternoon light, and the peaceful rhythm of the village became woven into a very happy chapter of my life.

Years later, when I began painting my Greek Streets collection, choosing this place felt effortless. I wasn’t looking for a famous landmark or a perfect composition. I was returning to a memory that had never really left me.

Artistically, this painting became an experiment in simplicity. I deliberately limited my colors and worked with only one brush, stepping away from my usual graphic style to explore a softer, more painterly approach. The restrictions became unexpectedly freeing, allowing atmosphere to take the place of detail.

I hope Lazy Afternoon invites you to slow down for a moment. Perhaps it reminds you of a place that quietly became part of your own story — or simply offers the peaceful feeling of a warm afternoon by the sea.

For me, this painting is about giving a cherished memory a home in color.

Old doors or absence of them... I have a collection of photos from Skopelos. Everything is white and just a little worn out color. So I added some color, a lot of it. Greece is colorful, or I see it that way.

Skiathos and Skopelos are the two main islands of the Sporades islands. They are both picturesque and inviting to explore every little corner and narrow street. This one is on Skiathos.
