Super Bloom City 16x20'
1/10
$200
You might ask me, why “blooming”? And you’d be completely right—there are no flowers in the picture. But their colors are there. This fantasy city arose spontaneously, like all my mischievous cities, but the colors—I chose them carefully. That’s what really matters. And where did those “flowers” come from? From the California desert, when it blooms sometimes in the spring, after a rainy winter. Mainly there are yellow poppies, but also lots of other brightly colored flowers. And when that happens in the California desert, many people go to see the flowers. I went too, photographed them, and used them.
Walls in the Clouds 26x26'
1/10
$280
I like returning to themes. I painted Mikulov in California. This one was another version, a digital one, of an acrylic painting of Mikulov. It’s actually a crop of a well known view toward the Mikulov castle from Kozí hrádek (tower ruin). My mosaic style dominates here completely, and I really played with it a lot. The colors come from one of my photos of a Mediterranean beach. The original painting depicts a city floating in the clouds, so here is something like a detail of it.
Chagall City 16x24'
1/10
$230
This city foreshadowed my encounter with Chagall - or rather with his paintings at an exhibition in Vienna. It was created in California, and I was probably inspired by one of Chagall’s works in terms of color. Otherwise, it doesn’t have much to do with him. Except maybe for some of the shapes of the houses? I wonder what it would be like if I walked through that orange gate… Maybe I’d even meet Chagall…
City Vibes 16x22'
1/4
$250
No, it’s not your imagination—this city has something in common with Chagall’s city. Actually, a couple of buildings. The builder probably thought they could be repeated or improved. And, of course in new colors. I had a sketch, and I redrew it. I like both cities, and you can choose which one appeals to you better. This one is even more decorative and, to me, feels more like a sculpture pretending to be a city.
Balcony 18x24'
1/4
$290
Once upon a time, there was a little balcony in an old house with a view of the skyscrapers in Los Angeles. A curtain was waving in the window. That’s how I remember the place where we filmed the trailer for an indie movie. I embellished it a bit. The colors are my favorite combinations of purple and complementary colors. The orange sky suits Los Angeles - it represents, for me, the color of the setting sun.
Fantasy LA 24x24'
1/4
$320
Once again, a remake. A second version of my Los Angeles in watercolor - but now unrecognizable. I have several versionsof this one, and the original orange one won. It’s a fantasy, visually distant from the real city, but it reflects my feelings about it, and some of the buildings resemble those I saw on many drives through the city. This is actually how Los Angeles can only be seen—from a car.
City of the Clowns 16x24'
1/4
$260
My very first, most abstract city - in the colors of fruits and vegetables, reminiscent of something that could be connected to clowns. These things arise on their own, grow, and take on color.
City of Many Pieces 18x24'
1/4
$250
TThis city also had its predecessor—the city of three towers. There were a few too many, and that’s how this one came about. There are lots of stairs, a little bridge, a cathedral, and a town hall. A whole life could take place there. Wouldn’t you like to visit a city like this? I would.
Clown's Chair 16x16'
1/4
$250
A safari palette and my usual shapes. It wasn’t until it was finished that it became clear what it could be. Who else would sit on this but a clown?
